Although benchmarking is a widely used tool in the world, in Romania, is little used, especially in the services sector, so no one can say that there is an experience of this practice.
In view of Management Romconsulting, benchmarking is a continuous process of economic and managerial performance evaluation of an organization, by comparing it with the strongest competitors on the market, based on a criteria included in a system of technical, financial and continuity indicators, in order to improve their business by integrating best practices and effective models of organizational management.
Taking into account the experience gained in projects for comparative analysis at regional level based on performance indicators, we believe that the implementation of benchmarking system should do in two planes, which correspond to two types of benchmarking:
- Internal Benchmarking. It is that which examines comparative practices, processes and performance of an organizational subdivision of a company with other structural links of the same organization. This type of benchmarking is the easiest to implement, because information can be obtained more quickly than for external benchmarking. You can compare, for example, the effectiveness of management at the level of managerial responsibility centers.
- Extenal benchmarking. It can be used for the comparative analysis of performance of the multiple companies in a sector of activity, based on a unique system of performance indicators.
